Messi is officially crowned Golden Ball 2019

Argentine Lionel Messi, Barcelona's top scorer, has officially won the Golden Ball award from France Football magazine.

Lionel Messi beat Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool striker Sadio Mane.

Messi was declared the winner at the ceremony on Monday evening at the Chatelet Theater.

Messi, who led Barcelona to the La Liga title and reached the Copa America semi-finals, won the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

It is the sixth time that Messi has won the Golden Ball, beating his rival and traditional rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who was crowned five times.
